Packaging Design


What makes a product stand out on a crowded shelf? What makes it attract the eye—excite, inform, and appeal, motivating customers to buy? What is packaging and what role does it play in a product’s identity? Why is packaging important?
In these studios, students worked from detailed briefs, to experience how to design packaging for a variety of projects. Key course concepts included seeing and designing in three dimensions, mass vs. niche design, designing for target markets and playful design. Students were also encouraged to think of the bigger picture–brands demanding unique positioning in the consumer’s mind, demand unique packaging.
